Most of the next two weeks were placid. We’d exhausted any other efforts in finding the Emperor’s niece and her friend. And once more things were that busy I’d then pushed it aside. There was a regular system to the way things ran here in our small ship and it was good. Tuhin had stepped out of the bathroom/hospital area to claps from the whole bay. He had never expected that, but the people in the lower levels were so grateful for his heroics, they brought him to tears. Happy ones.

Now as we approached the area where I knew Prime Zola lay, tensions were different.

I sat with Chase, and Sin stood between us. “The system is as quiet as ever,” she said. “You’re sure these are the right coordinates?”

I brought up the view before me, zoomed into the planet where I knew she was, and nodded to Sin. “This is Zola. For all intents and purposes, all you are seeing is a shielded planet. You will see nothing nor would anyone passing be able to spot her. Believe me, she is watching us.”

I reached forward and under Sin’s eyes keyed into the communication network I knew surrounded the planet. I then spoke clearly. “This is the ship entering your airspace. We are seeking refuge from Prime Daiser.”

Chase looked at me strangely, but I just held up a hand. “Repeat, we are seeking refuge to anyone that can take us.”

Nothing but static. I put the comms down.

“Why didn’t you tell them?” Chase asked.

“Wait,” I said. “They need time to reach a Grand Master.”

We waited, and I reached for Sin’s hand. She squeezed it gently.

There was some more static.

Then nothing.

Then more static.

Then there was a click. I sucked in a breath.

“To the vessel entering airspace above 1777. Prime Daiser, you’re sure?”

I thought I recognized the voice. If I was right, he shouldn’t have been on Prime Zola either. I tapped the screen. “Grand Master, I am sure. May we come in for landing?”

“I will send coordinates for you to land, and I look forward to meeting you.”

I watched for the coordinates and shook my head at Chase.

Then came the question: “May I ask who I am speaking to?”

I looked at Chase, whose face was full of trepidation, his hands clasped together.

“I’m the pilot with Chase Stalls and Sin Vrace,” I replied.

There was a pause and new coordinates came through.

“We will see you soon, Grand Master,” I replied.

I tapped in the landing coordinates.

“How did you know he wouldn’t send the right ones?” Sin asked.

“Just testing us, I believe,” I said. “Take us in, Chase.”

He frowned. “As gently as I can. How is Tuhin?”

“He’s doing really well, as are all of us. You’ve done us proud. Hardly any turbulence at all.”

He smiled and we watched as the dot of a planet before us grew. I plugged in to talk to those in the hanger. “We have clearance to land on Zola actual.”

We could hear the shouts and whoops from in here. I grinned and turned to look at Sin.
